We’ve learned punishment is now coming against Cleveland police officers after an internal investigation. The case focused on what was happening at a corner store situated at 40th and St. Clair.

Police internal investigators have been looking into claims many officers spent time there, even behind a glass-enclosed counter, with some walking out with lottery tickets, cigarettes or snacks.

We’ve learned part of the investigation has also focused on officers leaving their patrol zones to take breaks at the store.

The patrol officers union has called the investigation overblown and pointed out some officers were merely blocks away from their zones.

As of now, City Hall says one officer has had a hearing with the safety director. That usually means punishment of at least 10 days off. Five officers have had hearings with the chief. That usually means lesser punishment. The city says some administrative charges against supervisors are still under review.
