An ugly win is better than a pretty loss any day of the week, and an ugly win is exactly what the Cleveland Browns got with a 22-17 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at FirstEnergy Stadium Sunday.

The win puts the Browns at 5-3 overall heading into their Thursday Night Football matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals (5-2-1) this week.

After struggling with protection issues, the offensive line gave Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer enough time to pass the team back in front of the Buccaneers, 22-17, with a 34-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Taylor Gabriel with 8:59 to play in regulation.

On second-and-nine from Tampa Bay’s 34-yard line, Hoyer was rushed to the left side of the formation, and Gabriel ran a hit route on the right side of the formation. However, when Hoyer ran to his left, Gabriel took off for the end zone and got behind the coverage of Buccaneers cornerback Alterraun Verner, and hauled in the deep pass for his first career touchdown.
