When the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association (CPPA) started their “Shop With A Cop” program in 2012, the goal was to help kids who have a had a traumatic incident in their lives.

In the first year, 20 children were treated to a Christmas shopping spree. This year, 55 children took part in the program.

“These children, most of them, won’t have a Christmas except for what we give them here tonight,” said John Freehoffer, the program’s organizer.

Children were nominated to the union by members of the department who have interacted with the youngsters during a crime.

“We believe in the kids, these are all victims of homicides, domestic violence and sex crimes.” Freehoffer added.

Children and their families teamed up to shop the Target at Cleveland’s Steelyard Commons Tuesday evening, each were given $200 to spend.
