Ebola survivor Amber Vinson is becoming a medical pioneer. The Dallas nurse, originally from Akron, is donating her blood to XBiotech for them to make a new drug to combat one of the most deadly viruses on the planet.

The deal she made with the Texas company requires that if the drug works, the company will donate 5% of profits to people fighting the disease who cannot afford treatment.

Vinson is among seven Americans who survived the disease. She contracted it when she cared for Eric Duncan, an African patient visiting Dallas. He died from Ebola.
