Post-season play is over before it begins for East Tech High School in Cleveland.

The East Tech girls basketball team has been removed from the Ohio High School Athletic Association postseason tournament for playing 23 regular season games, one more than the regulation 22 games.

Leroy Carter, athletic administrator for East Tech, notified the OHSAA of the violation on Tuesday.

The Scarabs, who received the No. 1 seed in their Division II district tournament and were receiving votes in the latest Associated Press state poll, ended the regular season last Saturday with a 19-4 record.

Leonard Jackson, commissioner of athletics for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and the Senate Athletic League, of which East Tech is a member, said the violation was not done maliciously, but agreed that the regulation and penalty are clear.
