OKLAHOMA FRATERNITY

Frat busted: The Sigma Alpha Epsilon house at the University of Oklahoma will be shuttered at midnight tonight after video with members boisterously chanting a racial epithet surfaced.

“The house will be closed, and as far as I’m concerned, they won’t be back,” university President David Boren said, adding that the university is exploring what actions it can take against individual fraternity members. The SAE’s national chapter has suspended members already and threatened lifelong suspensions for anyone responsible for the chant.

FERGUSON COURTS

Courting trouble: The Missouri Supreme Court has moved all Ferguson municipal cases out of the city after the U.S. Justice Department said the local court participated in the unlawful targeting of African-Americans. Just about every branch of Ferguson government — police, Municipal Court, City Hall — participated in “unlawful” targeting of African-American residents for tickets and fines, the Justice Department concluded.

The Missouri high court made the move “to help restore public trust and confidence in the Ferguson municipal court division,” it said yesterday.

BATTLE FOR TIKRIT

Major offensive: Iraqi forces may be just days away from retaking Tikrit from ISIS fighters. In the past few days, government troops have closed to within a mile of the city center. Tikrit is best known to Westerners as the birthplace of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

It fell to ISIS in June. The operation is part of the widescale offensive to retake Tikrit ordered by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on March 1. Kurdish forces also report liberating three villages from ISIS over the past couple of days.
