The blues may have been his genre, but legendary guitarist Riley B. King, known simply as B.B. King, has a lot of fans in the gospel community.

John P. Kee, Erica Campbell, Yolanda Adams and more are reacting to news that the “king of the blues” died Thursday night at 89.

“To be the King of the Blues, He made so many of us smile,” wrote gospel artist John P. Kee, adding, “He made us laugh!”

His daughter, Patty King, announced that he passed away in Las Vegas, after being in home hospice care, suffering from dehydration.

King’s full and rich life was captured in a documentary “B.B. King: The Life of Riley,” and he inspired The B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center, which opened in 2008.
