More than 80,000 people were left without power as flood waters closed roads and Interstates in Houston.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster on Monday after an unprecedented flood hit the state, as well as Oklahoma.

At least eight have been killed, 12 people are still missing, houses were swept away and numerous others have been evacuated.

Four were confirmed dead in Oklahoma.

Prior to the torrential rains, the weather channel reported that an “extremely dangerous and potentially life-threatening flood situation” was making its way to Houston.

About 5 to 8 inches of rain have fallen in less than a day, Houston emergency management coordinator Rick Flanagan said Tuesday morning.
