Early Thursday evening (June 4), Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty released a statement:

“The County Prosecutor’s Office charged all the Cleveland Police officer defendants—that is, Patrolman Brelo and the supervisor, sergeants and lieutenant—in one single indictment and attempted to try them all together in one trial.

The attorneys insisted on separate trials and their motion was granted. Now that only misdemeanor charges remain, the charges can be tried in a misdemeanor court. The East Cleveland prosecutor has requested that this office try the case in the East Cleveland Municipal Court and has offered to assist.”

Five Cleveland police supervisors face charges for not calling off or trying to limit the 2012 police chase that involved dozens of police cars and left Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams dead.
