GETTY

Have you heard?

Barack Obama used the N-word during a podcast interview that sent the Internet into a frenzy.

While some may not prefer his word choice, it demonstrates the president’s consciousness of the racist attitudes and behaviors—both covert and overt—that continue to exist in America.

Here’s how a portion of the conversation went.

“I always tell young people, in particular, do not say that nothing has changed when it comes to race in America, unless you’ve lived through being a black man in the 1950s or ’60s or ’70s,” Obama said on “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast, establishing that racial progress has been made.

He added, “It is incontrovertible that race relations have improved significantly during my lifetime and yours.”

Notwithstanding, he said, “the legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination” remains an issue for America.
