On Monday, E.J. Thomas Executive Director Dan Dahl told WKYC in a message that officials with the University of Akron and police officers entered the hall and fired the staff.

He says that everyone, from ticket takers to himself, was fired.

Employees were told, “You’re done today…. This is your two week notice, but go home,” said Dahl.

The box office was also closed Monday. Employees were blindsided by the decision.

“I run a large operation… A very public operation, and we had no clue… We simply had no clue,” said Dahl.

The University of Akron says a budget deficit is forcing it out of the concert promotion business, jeopardizing a popular performing arts series.
