Members of East Cleveland City Council have called the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections to examine the validity of petitions submitted to have its city annexed by the City of Cleveland.
Council Clerk, Tracy Udrija-Peters and the council president believe the petitions may have forged signatures, and are missing key legal content.
Udrija-Peters told newsnet5.com the potential problems may make hundreds of signatures null and void, and could stop East Cleveland’s effort to be annexed into Cleveland.
“We have residents who are going to try and challenge this,” said Udrija-Peters. “As we’re looking at this, some of the signatures aren’t even adding up, they don’t even match. The petition should have been correct to begin with, it should have contained the correct information.”
