A public viewing and tribute have been announced for Congressman Louis Stokes, who passed away Tuesday evening.

On Monday, August 24, a public viewing will be held at the Cleveland City Hall Rotunda, located at 601 Lakeside Avenue, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It will be followed by a public appreciation program that evening. The program begins at 5:45 p.m. at City Hall.

The program will include remarks from retired Missouri Congressman William “Bill” Clay, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives with Congressman Stokes, former Ohio Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and other Cleveland business leaders, friends and associates of the Congressman. There will also be a special tribute from Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

Funeral services for Congressman Stokes are also open to the public.

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 25 at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church. The church is located at 8712 Quincy Avenue in Cleveland.

Family hour will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral program at 11 a.m.

The burial service will be private.
