GETTY:

Ohio State is limiting the numbers available on football jerseys for sale in light of an ongoing court battle over whether players should receive money from the sales.

The move comes as a result of a successful antitrust lawsuit filed in 2009 that challenged the right of colleges to use images of former student-athletes for commercial purposes.

Ohio State has since requested that Nike only make jerseys and shirts with the numbers 15 and 1 this year, representing the year and the ranking of national champions.

Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott currently wears the number 15, and former Heisman Trophy candidate Braxton Miller wears the number 1.

One retail expert says the move could severely hurt stores that sell the jerseys.
