The City of Cleveland and the Department of Justice are asking for more time to select a monitor to help track the city’s progress in transforming the police department.

The deadline was supposed to be Thursday, but Wednesday afternoon a motion was filed for an extension in U.S. District Court.

U.S. District Judge Solomon Oliver, Jr. will review the case.

The city and the Department of Justice are asking for 14 days to make a final selection.

This means, if approved, the new deadline would become September 24.

The court document states, “Selecting a monitor is critical to the successful implementation of the Settlement agreement. The parties have made significant progress toward that goal.”
