Victor Freeman says his family is still trying to come to terms with a monumental loss. Three-year-old Major Jamari Howard was shot during a drive-by shooting Tuesday evening around 7:15.

“Major was not a handful, but a heart full,” explains Freeman. “I just couldn’t imagine what he was going through. Speaking to my daughter at the time, afterward she said, ‘Daddy, he just laid in my arms, and he looked up at me, and he didn’t cry. He didn’t do anything. He tried to cry a little bit, but he just wouldn’t.’ And, that was Major,” said Freeman.

Freeman says Major was in the wrong place at the wrong time when gunfire broke out along East 113th Street.

His mother, Brittney Anderson, was visiting a friend when suddenly someone opened fire on the car Major was in, along with another of his mother’s friends, Dasha Smith. Major was playing video games inside the car when the shooting happened.
