The Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland employs 10 teenagers to participate in its Market Garden, a program that dates back to 2014.
Teens plant crops and tend to them throughout the year, but they also harvest and sell their crops at farmers markets across Cleveland.
“It’s important because these kids are our future,” said farm site manager, Chelsea Duty.
All of the participants are students who work in the garden after school.
“I thought you just planted and watered, but it’s a whole lot more to it,” said Elijah Colvin. “We go on field trips, we learn about banking and investments.”
