Think you know all there is to know about the dreaded flu and colds? Not so fast. Unless you like feeling like death every time cold and flu season rolls around, read on to see how to protect yourself this year.

1. The flu shot will NOT give you the flu—so go ahead and get one already.
You may feel crummy for a few days after getting vaccinated, but that’s not the same as getting the flu. The vaccine doesn’t contain live flu virus, so it’s impossible to get the flu from a flu shot, according to the CDC. Any achiness, fever, nausea, and fatigue you experience are likely a result of your body’s immune system ramping up and producing antibodies against influenza.
