Patti Labelle, a paid spokesperson for the American Lung Association’s “Lung Force Initiative,” is doing her part to help raise awareness about the disease.

This week, the legendary singer chatted with TODAY’s Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotb about how she’s lost loved ones to the often fatal illness.

“I’ve lost so many family and friends to lung cancer,” said Labelle, 71, who was wearing turquoise, the official lung cancer awareness color.

Lung cancer is the number one cancer-killer of women more-so than breast, colon or pancreatic cancer combined. And one woman, every eight minutes, dies of lung cancer in the U.S.
