Selma, AL — It was in 1965, fifty years ago, when the historic Selma to Montgomery March took place. As a result, many now recognize Alabama as the birthplace of leaders with dreams as thousands came together to march for Freedom and Equality
On Sunday, fifty years later, that same posture continued as hundreds took to the streets to take a stand.
With Deitrick Haddon leading the way, history was made again as youth, young adults, parents, and supporters took a stand again to make their voices heard. Gospel singers, industry executives including Ruth La’Ontra, Todd Dulaney, Apostle Veryl Howard, Clareta Haddon, Nathaniel Hughes, Bubba Smith, Movie Director Joshua Coates and hundreds of others, all came together for the world to see and to once again stop and take notice of important issues that are still affecting our country and our youth.
Those marching, chanting and praying gathered at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge to cross over the historic landmark for the 1st Save Our City Youth Prayer March.
The goal of the One Mile March was to bring attention and awareness concerning Violence and Gang violence among our youth, continued discrimination, equality in education and the protection of youth.
The kick off of the march started at 2:30pm on Sunday, December 6, 2015 with Deitrick Haddon, holding a bull horn and leading the way. As they marched, several individuals including Ruth La’Ontra and Apostle Very Howard also shouted prayers and words of encouragement that echoed throughout the crowd.
Following the march was a special Youth concert with Deitrick Haddon, Todd Dulaney, Ruth La’Ontra, Clareta Haddon, Shea Taylor, Fearless Love, DJ Nicholas and L Marrow & True Vision.
This was truly a memorable weekend that will live long in the hearts of all of those who participated.
Job well done!
