To honor Dr. King, the President and the First Lady participated in a service project at an elementary school that is home to many students from military families.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his life in service to others and in his honor Monday, President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama served the community.

The two participated in a community service project at Leckie Elementary School in Southwest Washington, D.C.

There were lots of smiles and plenty excitement as the Obamas got their hands dirty constructing moveable planters with grow lights and planting vegetables for the school’s “MLK Garden.”
