Jasmine Sullivan’s voice is powerful, soulful and full of emotion. Critics and fans agree that this young starlet is super talented and often underrated. Her debut single “Need U Bad,” produced by Missy Elliott, reached number one on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, while her second single, “Bust Your Windows,” peaked at number four.
But after her Grammy-nominated successful debut album you didn’t hear from her anymore. It was even said that she retired from music after one album. So what really happened?
“It was a lot of different things that made me feel like I needed to take a break. And it was a lot of personal things,” she shares. “It was some things as far as the industry and my work. But what’s most important to me is that I did get that time to kind of mature and in that time, I’m still working on it, but I feel like I’m so much more comfortable with myself and who I am and I what I have to offer to the world and to the industry. Moreso than when I first started.”
