ERIE, PA. – Officials at the Erie County Jail say Kyle Johnson was found unresponsive in his jail cell just after 3 p.m. Sunday.
Major Gary Seymour with the Erie County Prison told Fox 8’s Matt Wright that Johnson was pronounced dead just before 4 p.m.
He was on suicide watch at the time of his death and was alone in his cell. Officials said he died of an apparent suicide.
Now, both the Erie Police Department and the Erie County District Attorney are investigating.
Earlier this week, Johnson was arrested in Erie after he allegedly abducted his girlfriend, Brandi Shakir, from Oakwood Village and set her mother’s home on fire.
