The City of Cleveland will introduce next week proposed legislation that would raise the minimum wage in the city to $15 an hour.

Clerk of Council Pat Britt notified Raise Up Cleveland Wednesday that it had enough signatures to start legislative proceedings on the proposal.

Raise Up Cleveland is a group supported by the Service Employees International Union.

Supporters delivered 28,782 signatures to the city on May 2. The proposed ordinance would raise the minimum wage in the city to $15 beginning Jan. 1, 2017.
