As the weather gets nicer vehicle thefts tend to rise.

In the last year, Dodge Caravan topped the list as the most reported stolen vehicle in Cleveland.

The sergeant who heads the state patrol’s vehicle theft and fraud unit says any car could be susceptible to theft.

“Sometimes if a thief wants your vehicle there’s no way to stop it, but we can slow them down or make them think there’s a better car to go to than yours,” he said.

The sergeant, who works undercover, said it’s important to take a common-sense approach to protect your vehicle. No matter where you live in Northeast Ohio, lock your car, don’t leave your keys inside or valuables in plain sight. He also said he believes alarm systems, even the club, are a deterrent.
