A large crowd turned out on this warm Sunday at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery to honor the fallen on this Memorial Day weekend.

Many of the thousands of graves that line the countryside here receive many visitors year around.

But others, perhaps older graves, see few.

“The flag you place today at his or her grave site may be the only visitor they get this year,” Matthew Metschke, the cemetery’s director, told the audience.

The ceremony included patriotic music, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a keynote address.

That address was given by Susan Taylor, who served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War era, and later taught in the Medina City Schools.
