Ohio Gov. John Kasich has condemned the slayings of police officers and urged working together for healing in his appearance at the NAACP national convention.

The Republican spoke Sunday evening in downtown Cincinnati to the nation’s oldest civil rights organization.

Three officers were killed earlier Sunday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the latest violence involving police across the country.

Kasich pointed to his Ohio initiative that created a statewide collaborative effort on police and community relations.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will speak to the convention Monday morning. GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump turned down the NAACP’s invitation. The Republican National Convention starts Monday in Cleveland.
