Drowning is the second-leading cause of death for children under 14 years old. Swimming lessons can be a big help when it comes to keeping your child safe, but not all families can afford them.

The USA Swimming Foundation has provided swim lessons for more than 4 million children across the country who may not have been able to afford them otherwise. Now their program could make a difference for kids in northeast Ohio.

Yuma Jarosz, 13, loves to swim.

“I think it’s really fun, the other thing I like is if you swim a lot, you’ll be able to keep your head above water,” Jarosz said.

He’s taking swim lessons at The Natatorium in Cuyahoga Falls and he thinks all children should get the chance to take lessons just like he does.

“It’s very important, because we don’t want to be taking our kids on vacation and go to the beach and they want to stay in one or two feet, or they’re just sitting there building sand castles and playing with crabs,” he said.
