Negotiators are attempting to hammer out a deal to avoid a possible strike Friday by Cleveland Teachers.

There’s a news blackout on the talks progress. Neither the union, the Federal Mediator overseeing the talks nor Cleveland Schools are returning calls seeking a progress report on the status of negotiations.

The talks are happening at an undisclosed locations, not the Mediator’s office in Independence.

If there’s no settlement, a strike vote is set for Thursday night with picketing to start Friday.

Both sides earlier expressed optimism in reaching a deal.

The main issue is coming up with a new formula for teacher evaluations that affect raises and other important issues.

Other districts like Akron and Parma use seniority and education as the only criteria to decide pay raises.
