It sounded like a pep rally coming from inside MetroHealth Medical Center.

And it was of sorts, a clapping and cheering celebration welcoming new students who will attend the new Lincoln West School of Science and Health inside the hospital.

It’s believed to be the only such arrangement in the county as 126 freshmen and sophomores will spend three days a week in classes and training.

The objective is to provide not only training and information about medical careers, but also the other skills and professions needed to run a hospital like information technology, accounting, food service, security and building engineering.

Student Mario Wilson is excited.

“I will sign up for every field trip, every program, every opportunity they provide so I can do my best to get in and hopefully afford a full ride to college, ” he pledged.

Naresha Cinton is eager to get into classes.
