As the community mourns the loss of Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Kenneth Velez, Lorain County Community College will host the funeral services on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 21 and 22 for his family, friends and colleagues.
The wake for Trooper Velez will be held from 3-8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21 and funeral services will be held starting at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, both in the Ewing Activities Center.
Trooper Velez was struck by a vehicle while conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 90 in Cleveland September 15.
During his career, Trooper Velez received several commendation letters and awards. He recently celebrated his 48th birthday, and is survived by his three children.
Trooper Velez began training with the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s 118th Academy Class in May 1989.
After graduation, he was assigned to the Canfield Post and later transferred to the Elyria Post in February 1992.
