According to a statement from Euclid Schools, Euclid High School junior Andre L. Jackson passed away following an injury sustained during Friday night’s football game.

The statement read: “Andre was a hardworking student-athlete that brought smiles to all those with whom he came in contact. The Euclid City School District would like to extend its deepest sympathy to the Jackson family during this horrific time.”

Jackson was injured as he was part of a special teams play at an away game against Solon Friday.

Coach Jeff Rotsky wouldn’t give specifics about how Jackson was hurt,  but did say, “There was a pooch kick and he was going for the ball and one of their guys was going for the ball and I think he got kicked or kneed or something like that. It was a completely normal play. It was just a very strange situation and a sad situation,” Rotsky said.

Grief counselors will be available Monday at Euclid High School for any students who need to talk with someone about Andre’s death.
