Hurricane Matthew: Weather Service Issues Dire Warning:

The National Weather Service is not mincing words about powerful Hurricane Matthew.

The agency’s Melbourne, Florida, office warned Thursday night that homes and buildings in central Florida “may be uninhabitable for weeks or months.”
The dire warning is similar to one sent just before Hurricane Katrina plowed into the Gulf Coast in 2005, CNN Senior Meteorologist Dave Hennen said.
The effects of the storm will be unlike any hurricane in decades, the weather service said.

Obama Approval Hits New High:

President Barack Obama’s approval rating stands at 55% in a new CNN/ORC poll, the highest mark of his second term, and matching his best at any time since his first year in office.

The new rating outpaces his previous second-term high — reached just after a Democratic convention that extolled the successes of his presidency — by one point, and hits a level he’s reached just twice since the end of his first year in office: In January 2013 just before his second inauguration and in January 2011.

A Parent’s Guide To The Creepy Clown Scare:

The clowns are here, and they won’t go away. What started as a few amusing headlines in August has now ballooned into a full-blown clown epidemic, and no one would blame you if you were a bit curious and perhaps even a little concerned.

After all, while there’s been plenty of social media foolishness and hoaxes across the country, there have also been a few more sinister incidents, all of them seemingly feeding off each other.
When should you worry, and when should you dismiss it as a harmless trend? Here’s the long and short of the “threat,” and what school officials and law enforcement are doing to keep everyone safe and sane.

Jay Z Producing Richard Pryor Biopic And Lee Daniels Is Back On Board:

Jay Z is one busy man and on Thursday he announced his next project.

The rapper is producing The Weinstein Company’s Richard Pryor biopic.
“[Pryor’s] story is an American story,” Jay Z said at a press conference for his new Spike TV docuseries about Kalief Browder. “You’ll understand how many lives he’s touched. I mean, from every single comedian to rappers like Biggie Smalls.”
Harvey Weinstein told CNN that despite reports that director Lee Daniels had backed out of the project, he’s totally on board.
“No, Lee Daniels will be directing it,” Weinstein said. “I believe Lee Daniels is way in and never wanted to be out. Jay got involved a few months ago but we were working on our deal and couldn’t announce it. But I think it’ll be on the fast track now.”

Obama Reducing 102 Inmates’ Sentences

Another 102 prison inmates learned Thursday their sentences are being reduced by a stroke of President Barack Obama’s pen, the latest batch in a record-setting effort by the White House to reverse harsh sentences for mostly nonviolent drug offenders.

Obama has now granted clemency to 774 individuals, the vast majority of whom were serving time for nonviolent drug crimes. Just in the past year, Obama has granted clemency to 590 prisoners –– the most commutations in any single year of US history.
At the same time, the number of inmates who have applied for pardons or commutations has increased sharply in the final year of Obama’s tenure, creating a backlog of requests for Obama’s team to process before he leaves office in January.
