Authorities investigating a historically black church burned Tuesday night in Greenville also found “Vote Trump” spraypainted on the side.

The FBI has been notified of the burning of the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

“The FBI Jackson Division is aware of the situation in Greenville, and we are working with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners to determine if any civil rights crimes were committed,” said spokesman Brett Carr.

A GoFundMe account was set up Wednesday morning to help Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church repair the damage done to its sanctuary and exterior. The goal was set for $10,000. At press time, over $60,000 had been raised, according to The Huffington Post.

The vandals are still at large. The FBI reportedly said they are aware of the situation and are currently investigating the case to “determine if any civil rights crimes were committed.”

“The animus of this election cycle combined with the potent racial history of burning black churches as a political symbol makes this event something we must not ignore,” the Go Fund Me page reads.

“Can we do this?” the description pleads. “Can we help show the world, the country, and most importantly, the churchgoers of Hopewell Baptist that we, as a society, are better than this?”
