UPDATE:

Oprah Winfrey returned to broadcast television last night and brought the first lady and some 9 million viewers along with her.

Michelle Obama Says Goodbye To the White House: An Oprah Winfrey Special drew 9.39 million households and a 1.3 rating in adults 18-49 for CBS, which is well below the ratings highs for some of Oprah’s past primetime interview specials, but large enough to post the network’s largest audience in the 8 p.m. hour since Oct. 17.

In the 8-9 p.m. time slot, Oprah’s special managed to edge the first hour of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent: Holiday Spectacular,” which drew 9.14 million viewers and as 1.8 in 18-49. But the two-hour “AGT” special was No. 1 for the night in both adults 18-49 (1.8) and total viewers (9.5 million), and provided a solid lead-in for the new LeBron James-produced NBC game show “The Wall,” whose preview drew a 1.6 in 18-49 and 6.5 million viewers.

OWN will air Michelle Obama Says Goodbye To the White House: An Oprah Winfrey Special a second time on Wednesday, Dec. 21
