The biggest and best in music will come together to be celebrated at the 59th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 12, at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The live broadcast of the show will begin at 5 p.m. PT. on CBS (with a preshow set for 4:30 p.m. PT).
James Corden, host of The Late Late Show and the man behind “Carpool Karaoke,” will host the music spectacle (although he’s said the popular segment from his CBS late-night show won’t make an appearance during the Grammys). This will be Corden’s first run at hosting the show, taking over for five-time consecutive host LL Cool J.
While previous ceremonies have set the stage for some of music’s biggest moments, this year’s show features a stellar lineup of performers including Adele and Lady Gaga, along with tributes to Prince and George Michael. Read more about Sunday’s events below.
No stranger to the Grammy’s stage, Adele makes her return after dealing with technical issues during her performance at last year’s ceremony. Beyonce is also rumored to be taking the stage, debuting her newly announced baby bump on live television. In addition, tributes to Prince and George Michael, who both died last year, are in the work, with the performers involved being kept under wraps.
The roster of performers also includes Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, The Weeknd, Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars, Gary Clark Jr., Chance the Rapper, Katy Perry, Maren Morris, Anderson .Paak, A Tribe Called Quest and Sturgill Simpson.
Beyoncé leads the Grammy nominations with a total of nine for her album Lemonade and anthem-infused single “Formation,” proving that when given lemons, Grammy nominations are made. Drake, Rihanna and Kanye West follow with eight nominations each, while Chance the Rapper makes his nominee debut with a total of seven. The rapper made headlines by signing a petition last year for the Grammys to allow digital-only releases to be nominated for the coveted awards. A month later, the Grammys altered its rules, with Chance praising the moment on his Twitter account as a “victory.” If his digital-only Coloring Book wins, it will mark the first digital-release album to do so.
