Trump Fails To Force Health Care Vote In First 100 Days:

House GOP leaders, despite a furious push Thursday, were unable to wrangle the votes necessary to move forward on their latest effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

The development short-circuits, yet again, the House effort to repeal the cornerstone domestic achievement of President Barack Obama.

It guarantees President Donald Trump will be without a cornerstone legislative achievement on his 100th day in office — a symbolic moment that the White House has focused on intently in recent days as negotiations on a revised health care proposal accelerated.

Arkansas Executes Kenneth Williams, 4th Inmate In A Week:

Arkansas executed its fourth inmate in a week, ending a frantic schedule caused by the looming expiration of the state’s supply of lethal injection drugs.

Kenneth Williams, 38, was initially sentenced to life in prison for the 1998 killing of Dominique Hurd, a university cheerleader. He was later convicted of capital murder after he escaped from prison and killed Cecil Boren .
Boren’s daughter, Jodie Efird, watched the execution Thursday night from the death chamber. She said while it may not bring closure, it helps a little.
“Every time we drive down this road, he’s not here anymore,” she said of Williams.

First Girl Scout Troop For Homeless Girls Welcomes 21 Members:

The Girl Scouts of America welcomed their first troop for homeless girls in New York City.

A group of 21 girls, ages 5 to 14, are part of the Girl Scouts of Greater New York’s newly created Troop 6000. It’s comprised entirely of young girls who are living in the city’s shelter system.

“You are in four walls all day,” said Giselle Burgess, a mom of five. “You are trapped and helpless, looking at your kids.”

Burgess has a job and was living in an apartment Flushing, Queens, until the building she rented from was sold to make way for high-end condos. Unable to find an apartment she could afford, Burgess was forced to move with her five daughters into a city shelter

Trump Wary Of ‘Major, Major’ Conflict With North Korea As UN Meets:

US President Donald Trump said Thursday not to discount the chance of a military conflict with North Korea even as his Secretary of State seemed to leave the door open for talks.

“There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea,” Trump told Reuters, amid an ongoing standoff over Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile programs.
He said he would prefer, however, to avoid conflict and peaceably achieve a non-nuclear North Korea.
“We’d love to solve things diplomatically, but it’s very difficult,” Trump said.

United Airlines Reaches Settlement With Passenger Who Was Dragged Off Plane:

United Airlines just reached a settlement with Dr. David Dao, the passenger who was violently dragged off a flight earlier this month in an incident that created a firestorm for the company.

Dao’s lawyers announced the deal Thursday, but did not disclose the financial terms of the settlement.

The announcement includes praise for United (UAL) CEO Oscar Munoz from Thomas Demetrio, one of Dao’s lawyers.

“Mr. Munoz said he was going to do the right thing, and he has,” he said. “In addition, United has taken full responsibility for what happened…without attempting to blame others, including the City of Chicago.”
