Obama Calls For ‘Courage’ To Oppose Obamacare Repeal:

Former President Barack Obama called on members of Congress to oppose the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, his signature health care law, in a speech Sunday night at the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation in Boston.

Obama’s remarks, which he gave upon receiving the 2017 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award, are his first since the House voted to repeal and replace Obamacare on Thursday. They mark a rare post-presidency appeal on a policy matter for Obama, who has steered clear of discussing political issues since leaving office.

Obama called on lawmakers to have the courage to “champion the vulnerable and the sick and the infirm.” He said he hopes they understand that “courage does not always mean doing what is politically expedient, but what they believe deep in their hearts is right.”

Why Teen Mental Health Experts Are Focused On ’13 Reasons Why’:

Alexa Curtis, 19, laid her laptop on her dinner table and took a deep breath.

It was a brisk April evening, and Curtis was prepared to spend the night in her Boston apartment watching the new Netflix series “13 Reasons Why.”
As the first three episodes of the teen drama unfolded on her computer screen, Curtis’ heart began to race.
“13 Reasons Why” is based on best-selling author Jay Asher’s 2007 young adult book of the same title. Actress and pop star Selena Gomez co-produced the 13-episode Netflix adaptation.
The series, which premiered March 31, follows the fictional story of a teenage girl named Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) who leaves behind 13 mysterious audio recordings on cassette tapes after killing herself. She addresses each recording to a person who she says played a role in her tragic decision to end her own life.

Macron Defeats Populism In France But Must Now Work With Trump:

By turning to Emmanuel Macron as its new president, France has elevated a charismatic new leader in the great political battle between globalism and nationalism that is underway in Western democracies.

The 39-year-old’s win over far-right candidate Marine Le Pen Sunday in the second round of the French election represents liberal internationalism’s most significant response yet to the populist tsunami that yielded President Donald Trump and Brexit and ended a crop of establishment political careers.
Macron, a proponent of globalization, centrist politics and the European Union, in effect erected a bastion against the unconventional and disruptive forces that have roiled developed world politics over the last year.

Trump Travel Ban Challenge In Appeals Court Monday:

President Donald Trump’s travel ban is back in the spotlight Monday with a high-stakes legal battle in front of a dozen federal judges in Richmond, Virginia.

Nearly two months ago, a federal judge in Maryland imposed a nationwide halt to the core portion of the President’s revised executive order that sought to bar foreign nationals from six majority-Muslim countries from entering the US for 90 days. The judge concluded, largely drawing on Trump’s past statements, that the travel ban likely violates the Constitution by disfavoring Muslims, and the Justice Department appealed that decision in March.

MTV Movie And TV Awards 2017: The Winners:

he rebooted MTV Movie and TV Awards, which now honors both big and small projects, debuted on Sunday night.

The show was hosted by comedian and actor Adam DeVine, who kicked things off with an over-the-top musical number from “Beauty and the Beast.”
Actress Emma Watson, who starred in the Disney blockbuster, won the night’s award for best actor.
“I think I’m being given this award because of who Belle is and what she represents. The villagers in our fairytale wanted to make Belle believe the world was smaller than the way that she saw it, with fewer opportunities for her. I love playing someone who didn’t listen to any of that,” Watson said in her acceptance speech.
The actress also pointed out that was the first year MTV had genderless categories, which made the honor even more meaningful to her.
