Titans of gospel music will convene at Merrillville’s Star Plaza Theatre on May 12.

Especially impressive in recording stature, Shirley Caesar is an 11-time Grammy Award winner.

Joining the Durham, N.C., native at “A Mother’s Day Celebration” will be Kirk Franklin and Marvin Sapp.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Caesar said in a recent phone interview.

“With me being the oldest one out there, they got to take it easy on the old girl,” she said, jokingly.

Caesar has a clear vision of the show’s mission on the Friday night before Mother’s Day: “We’re coming to try to spread some sunshine and some joy.”

In that vein, Caesar is set to perform one of her rousing classics at the 8 p.m. show.

“I’m going to do ‘Hold My Mule,’” the singer said.
