Morris Brown College has been through on an arduous journey over the past decade. Despite the seemingly endless financial woes and decline in enrollment, Morris Brown College has kept its doors open. Seventeen understudies will graduate from Morris Brown College this year, including Sam Smith, who put in 50 years working at MARTA before resigning at 71 and coming back to Morris Brown to finish his degree.

The commencement is May 20 at 4 p.m. at Big Bethel AME church. Dennis Kimbro, an author and business college educator at Clark Atlanta University, will give the keynote address at Morris Brown College’s forthcoming beginning function.

Hoorary degrees will be given to seven people, including an honorary Doctorate of Letters to Kimbro, an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters to NBA Hall of Famer and David T. Howard High School graduate Walter “Clyde” Frazier and an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts to actor Chris Tucker.
