At a time when most of her peers are past their prime, icon Patti LaBelle talks as if she is just getting started.

With her 73rd birthday just passing, Patti LaBelle is not only celebrating another year, but also another album.

With 50 years of recording and touring dates already under her belt, the veteran singer is still deeply involved in modern show business. Whether it is through her timeless albums, sold out tours, or even her latest dessert cookbook, the singers name seems to never leave the spotlight. And this is all without having recording a studio album in almost a decade.

With a new jazz album titled “Bel Hommage” (her first studio release in a decade), a recent dessert cookbook — “Desserts LaBelle” — and continual concert dates, the singer has no plans to tuck herself out of view. “I didn’t want to take a chance on music that I’ve never done before,” explains LaBelle. “I was afraid of being talked about badly if I made it and make it awful.”
