Senate Finally Unveils Secret Health Care Bill:

The closely guarded Senate health care bill written entirely behind closed doors finally became public Thursday in a do-or-die moment for the Republican Party’s winding efforts to repeal Obamacare.

The unveiling of the legislation marks the first time that the majority of the Senate GOP conference gets a comprehensive look at the health care proposal. With Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pressing ahead for a vote next week, senators only a handful of days to decide whether to support or vote against the bill.

The bill is very similar to the version of the House bill that passed last month but with some key changes. The text released Thursday showed the Senate legislation would still make major changes to the nation’s health care system, repealing Obamacare’s individual mandate, drastically cutting back federal support of Medicaid, eliminating Obamacare’s taxes on the wealthy, insurers and others.

Some House Democrats Say It’s Time For Pelosi To Go:

A small group of House Democrats are publicly saying it’s time for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to step aside as the face of the party ahead of the 2018 midterms following Tuesday night’s disappointing loss in a special election for a Georgia House seat.

“We need leadership change,” New York Democratic Rep. Kathleen Rice told CNN outside the House chamber. “It’s time for Nancy Pelosi to go, and the entire leadership team.”
Rice attended the closed-door House Democratic caucus meeting on Wednesday morning but said she did not raise the issue in the session, and no other members brought up the idea of a leadership change. “I think that people were in shock” after hearing a report from Pelosi and the head of the House campaign arm that Democrats lost, but were doing better in contests in other GOP districts.

Bill Cosby Jury Voted 10-2 To Convict, Juror Tells ABC:

Ten of the 12 jurors in Bill Cosby’s assault trial voted to convict the comedian on two counts of aggravated indecent assault, but the case was declared a mistrial because two people on the panel continued to hold out, a juror told ABC News.

Cosby faced three counts of aggravated indecent assault. The vote was 10 to 2 to convict him on charges that he digitally penetrated Andrea Constand in January 2004 without her consent, and 10 to 2 that he gave her drugs that substantially impaired her ability to resist, the juror told ABC Wednesday.
The vote was 11 to 1 to acquit Cosby on a charge that he digitally penetrated her while she was unconscious or unaware.

Prince Harry: No Royal Wants To Be King Or Queen:

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II has reigned for over 65 years, but according to Prince Harry few in the royal family envy her, despite sharing her sense of duty.

In an interview with Newsweek, Prince Harry said the monarchy was a “force for good” but suggested that he and his older brother Prince William are trying to overhaul its image.
“We are involved in modernizing the British monarchy. We are not doing this for ourselves but for the greater good of the people” the prince said.
“Is there any one of the royal family who wants to be king or queen? I don’t think so, but we will carry out our duties at the right time.”

Derek Carr Signs Raiders Contract, QB Reportedly Is NFL’s Highest-Paid Player:

While he’s still signed for another season, the Oakland Raiders wasted little time rewarding quarterback Derek Carr for his strong performance this season.

Carr confirmed Thursday via Twitter that he signed an extension:

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Carr and the Raiders agreed to terms on a five-year extension worth $125 million on Thursday, which would make him the highest-paid player in league history.

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reported Carr’s deal includes $70 million in guarantees with $40 million guaranteed at signing.

He now currently eclipses Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, who averages nearly $24.6 million annually, per Spotrac.
