Aside from Bishop Vashti McKenzie’s The Big Deal of Taking Small Steps to Move Closer to God,
which has been selected as EEW Magazine’s 2017 “Best Book of the Year,” what notable books are there to curl up with this summer? While it’s a tough task to narrow it down, Empowering Everyday Women Ministries’ editors have put together a very short (and by no means exhaustive) list of 5 additional books to add to your summer reading list. Here they are in no particular order: Don’t Settle for Safe: Embracing the Uncomfortable to Become Unstoppable By Sarah Jakes In this book, Sarah Jakes, First Lady of One Church LA, who has been very transparent about the mistakes she’s made in her life, shares the numerous life lessons she’s learned along the way with other women also struggling to believe they’re not disqualified by their pain and past mistakes. Don’t Settle for Safe delves into topics such as allowing the past to empower the present, choosing to step forward while still being afraid, facing struggles surrounded by community, finding intimacy with God outside preconceived notions of what it has to look like, and more. With deeply personal stories of her own, Sarah helps readers find their way to the right perspective and the confidence to walk toward the best God has for them. I Am Number 8: Overlooked and Undervalued, but Not Forgotten by God By John Gray David in the Bible was born a number 8–a hidden gem, often overlooked and undervalued by everyone except for God. For David, being a number 8 seemed like a curse until the day God transformed him from the unknown eighth son of Jesse into the much-honored king of Israel. In I Am Number 8, by John Gray, an associate pastor at Lakewood in Houston, TX, says, when God sends out an invitation to greatness, His directions don’t always make sense to us. You may feel like the most invisible, broken number 8 out there, but Pastor John reinforces the message that God sees your hidden value and is growing you for better things. Even when you’re an underdog in the eyes of the world, God is working behind the scenes to develop you into a king or queen.CLICK HERE to read story source: EEW Magazine / June 2017 Issue |
