The Opioid Epidemic Is Not An Official Emergency:
Despite President Trump’s announcement that the opioid crisis is “a national emergency” two weeks ago, there has been no formal declaration from the administration.
And the winner is … Mavis Wanczyk.
Wanczyk, 53, landed the largest single lottery jackpot ever in the United States — the $758.7 million grand prize in Wednesday’s Power Ball.
The winning ticket (6, 7, 16, 23, 26, and Powerball number 4) was purchased at the Pride Station & Store in Chicopee, Massachusetts.
Wanczyk said she discovered Wednesday night while leaving work at the Mercy Medical Center that she had won. A co-worker looked at her ticket and told her she had won. He told her to immediately sign the back of the ticket. She couldn’t believe it.
“I couldn’t drive anywhere. I couldn’t do anything,” she told reporters. She said her co-worker followed her home to make sure she was OK.

Ex-Lottery Worker Who Rigged Winnings Gets 25 Years In Prison:
A former lottery worker was sentenced to 25 years in prison onTuesday for rigging the system in several states so he could collect the jackpots.
Eddie Tipton, former security director of the Multistate Lottery Association, received the maximum sentence from an Iowa judge, who mentioned Tipton’s “greed” in his sentencing
“I certainly regret my actions,” Tipton told the court. “It’s difficult even saying that with all the people that I know behind me that I hurt.”
Tipton pleaded guilty in June to a charge of ongoing criminal conduct for a scheme involving seven lottery tickets in five states, according to court documents. He admitted to rigging computer codes to produce winning numbers — netting Tipton and his accomplices millions of dollars.
