Many are trapped in flooded homes, and others who’ve taken refuge in shelters are unsure of their future. Across the state, families are searching tirelessly for missing relatives on the sixth day since the catastrophic storm made its first landfall.
“The worst is not yet over for southeast Texas,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in a news conference.
At least 37 deaths related to Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath have been reported in Texas. Among the dead are a Houston man who was electrocuted while walking in floodwaters and a mother whose body was floating about a half mile from her car. Rescuers found her daughter, who is in stable condition with hypothermia, clinging to her dead body.
US Stealth Fighters Join Show Of Force Over Korean Peninsula:
Four US F-35B fighter jets joined two US B-1B bombers and four South Korean F-15 fighter jets in the joint US-South Korean flyover of the Korean Peninsula, an official with the South Korean Air Force told CNN.
The exercise was designed to “strongly counter North Korea’s repeated ballistic missile tests and development of nuclear weapons,” the official said.
In a statement, the air force said the US bombers flew out of Guam and four stealth fighter jets from a US Marine Corps base in Japan.
Kermit The Frog’s New Voice Debuts On ‘Muppet Thought of the Week:
In July, Matt Vogel replaced former puppeteer Steve Whitmire, who had portrayed the character for 27 years.
Whitmire took over as the voice of Kermit after the famous frog’s creator and originator of the voice, Jim Henson, died suddenly in 1990.
But the puppeteer was suddenly replaced this summer by Disney, owners of The Muppets Studio. The company and The Muppets Studio
told The Hollywood Reporterthat Whitmire was dismissed for “unacceptable business conduct.”
Jerry Springer On Ohio Governor Run: ‘I Haven’t Decided’:
“I know there’s talk … I haven’t decided anything … and certainly no announcement Monday,” the TV host and former Democratic Cincinnati mayor told CNN in an email statement issued by his publicist Wednesday. “I’m in Cleveland that day giving a speech at the Labor Day rally supporting unions.”
Speculation around Springer’s potential gubernatorial bid has been growing for several months.
Springer’s friend and podcast co-host Jene Galvin
told the Cincinnati Enquirer “there have been who have asked him to run for governor, and he is considering it and will decide that pretty soon.”
US Military Sends Warships, Aircraft To Texas:
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has activated the entire Texas National Guard, which is made up of roughly 12,000 troops.
State, local and military rescue units have plucked thousands of stranded residents from the water and deluged homes.
