Charles Manson, leader of murderous ’60s cult, dead at 83:

Charles Manson, the wild-eyed 1960s cult leader whose followers committed heinous murders that terrorized Los Angeles and shocked the nation, died Sunday of natural causes, according to the California Department of Corrections. He was 83.

The diminutive and charismatic Manson orchestrated a wave of violence in August 1969 that took the lives of seven people, spawned headlines worldwide and landed him and his “Manson Family” of followers in prison for most of the remainder of their lives.

Manson served nine life terms in California prisons and was denied parole 12 times. His notoriety, boosted by popular books and films, made him a cult figure to those fascinated by his dark apocalyptic visions.

Trump on Lavar Ball’s remarks: ‘I should have left them in jail!’:

President Donald Trump on Sunday shot back at Lavar Ball, the father of one of the UCLA basketball players arrested in China, for belittling the President’s role in the students’ release.

“Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal,” Trump tweeted. “I should have left them in jail!”

US Marine arrested following fatal Okinawa truck crash:

A US service member has been arrested following a deadly vehicle crash on the Japanese island of Okinawa early Sunday morning.

Marine Pvt. First Class Nicholas James-McLean was driving a truck when it collided with another vehicle at 5:25 a.m. in Okinawa’s capital of Naha, killing the other driver — a 61-year-old local man identified as Jun Tamanaha, the Naha police department told CNN.
Police said James-McLean’s blood alcohol content was three times the legal limit.

Simone Biles Supports Aly Raisman After Apparent Criticism from Gabby Douglas:

Simone Biles has responded to controversial comments made by her United States gymnastics teammate Gabby Douglas.

Douglas tweeted women have a “responsibility” to dress “modestly and be classy” in a reply to a social media message from Aly Raisman, who was also on the 2016 U.S. Olympic gymnastics team, about women having the right to be “sexy and comfortable in their own skin” without being harassed by men.

David Cassidy, ‘Partridge Family’ superstar, in critical condition:

David Cassidy, the wildly popular ’70s heartthrob who shot to fame when he starred and sang in TV’s “The Partridge Family,” is in critical condition with organ failure.

Cassidy is being treated at a Fort Lauderdale, Florida, area hospital, longtime publicist Jo-Ann Geffen told CNN on Saturday. He is in the intensive care unit and has a breathing tube, she said.
