A teenage suspect is in custody and another is on the run after a fatal shooting Friday that took the life of a 12-year-old boy on Cleveland’s east side.

During a press conference on Monday evening, officials announced that the arrested teen is now being held in a juvenile detention center. A second teen suspect remains at-large.

The pair are facing charges of aggravated and attempted murder.

More charges could be brought about as the investigation continues. Both could be tried as adults.

Mayor Frank Jackson, Police Chief Calvin Williams, and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley were among those present at Monday’s press conference at Cleveland City Hall.

O’Malley told reporters that it’s clear there’s an ‘epidemic of youth violence’ in the city of Cleveland.

According to reports, the shooting occurred around 7:30 Friday night when a group of teens were walking on the sidewalk near Buckeye and E. 116th Street.

Police say they were approached by a group of males who pulled out guns and began firing.

12-year-old Abdel Latif Bashiti was shot. He died at the scene
