Former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama will be on-hand as their portraits are unveiled next month at the Smithsonian.

The couple will take part in a private ceremony on Feb. 12 at the National Portrait Gallery that will offer the first look at the new works of art, the Smithsonian announced Wednesday.

Artist Kehinde Wiley, who the Smithsonian says is “best known for his vibrant, large-scale paintings of African Americans,” was chosen by the National Portrait Gallery to paint the former commander in chief.

Amy Sherald, an artist based in Baltimore, was selected to paint Michelle Obama.

The pair of portraits will join the “America’s Presidents” exhibition at the gallery in Washington as part of its permanent installation.
