The Cuyahoga Valley National Park will be closed during the government shutdown, but what exactly does that mean?

According to the park’s website, you will still be able to access a lot of the park, but things typically locked during non business hours will be closed up. So you can still expect to get into parking lots and walk on the trails and paths however, the parking lot and walkways won’t be plowed or salted until the shutdown ends.

The train is still running because it’s a separate nonprofit entity from the national park, but the restrooms at the station are closed. There’s no trash collection and no maintenance.

The emergency and rescue services are limited and the park may close an area with sensitive natural resources or historic significance to prevent destruction.

So as the weather warms up and more people head to the park, they should prepare for minimalistic conditions until the shutdown ends
