On Thursday, George F. Dixon III, president of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority Board of Trustees resigned at the board’s request.

According to a release, the board is now investigating Dixon after allegations surfaced that for years he’s failed to pay healthcare premiums for insurance provided by RTA

The board was made aware of the allegations on March 27.

Dixon was appointed to the board in 1992 and was later named president in 1994.

“This comes as a shock to all of us who have known George for so long, and we’re profoundly disappointed,” said board member and South Euclid Mayor, George Welo. “Failure to pay for your health care would be a serious issue for anyone at RTA – particularly someone in a leadership position.”
